This painting was inspired by the way the sun was just starting to break through the fog making the calm water shimmer, and the trees in the distance catch the subtle light while still being shrouded in marine fog. The reference photo for this painting was taken on a misty June morning at Pachena Bay on the west coast of Vancouver Island.
