It seems that there is an underlying sadness in the spirit of nature. Perhaps it’s a reflection of the way we treat our Mother Earth. I mean sure we love the waterfall and the swimming hole because we like how it feels on a hot day, we like what we get from it. But do we love it for it? Do we love the cool wet spray because it gives life to the moss? Do we love the big maple leaves because they turn into soil for the sword ferns to flourish in? It’s easy to see value in something that gives to us directly, but shouldn’t we also care for and value that which leads to the flourishing of all life? We need the forests to shade the streams or our waterfalls will surely run dry. Then we will post waterfall Wednesday pictures in memory of what we once had that we thought would last forever without taking care of it.

I think it’s time for a paradigm shift in the way we understand the value of our environment.
